CSE Option in Agricultural and Biological Engineering

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) offers CSE Options in both the M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs. Students electing the CSE Option for either degree program are expected to satisfy all regular requirements for graduate study in ABE. A student will normally be able to satisfy the requirements for the CSE Option by taking elective courses within the ABE graduate programs.

M.S. Program

For the M.S. in ABE with the CSE Option, the following additional requirements must be satisfied: four hours of course work must be from CSE core courses, and four additional hours of course work must be from an approved list of computational application courses. The M.S. thesis must have a significant computational component.

Ph.D. Program

For the Ph.D. in ABE with the CSE Option, the following additional requirements must be satisfied: eight hours of course work must be from CSE core courses, eight additional hours of course work must be from an approved list of computational application courses, and four additional hours must be from either the Numerical Computing or Computer Software, Hardware, and Graphics lists of CSE courses. The Ph.D. thesis must have a significant computational component, and the thesis committee must include at least one CSE-affiliated faculty member from a department other than ABE.
