CSE Option in Aerospace Engineering

The Department of Aerospace Engineering (AE) offers CSE Options in both the M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs. Students electing the CSE Option for either degree program are expected to satisfy all regular requirements for graduate study in AE. A student will normally be able to satisfy the requirements for the CSE Option by taking elective courses within the AE graduate programs.

M.S. Program

For the M.S. in AE with the CSE Option, the following additional requirements must be satisfied: four hours of course work must be from CSE core courses, and four additional hours of course work must be from CSE courses in AE or another department. The M.S. thesis, if any, must have a significant computational component.

Ph.D. Program

For the Ph.D. in AE with the CSE Option, the following additional requirements must be satisfied: four hours of course work beyond the M.S. must be from CSE core courses, and eight additional hours of course work beyond the M.S. must be from CSE courses, of which four hours must be from AE/CSE cross-listed courses. The Ph.D. thesis must have a significant computational component, and the thesis committee must include at least one CSE-affiliated faculty member from a department other than AE.
